Mumbai to Observe Dry Days Ahead of Maharashtra Elections: Details and Polling Booth Update

Mumbai, November 18, 2024 — Voters in Mumbai and across Maharashtra should take note that there will be dry days in place during the upcoming elections, with strict restrictions on alcohol sales.

  • November 18: Alcohol sales will be prohibited after 6 pm today.
  • November 19: In anticipation of voting the following day, there will be a complete ban on the sale of alcohol across the city.
  • November 20: A partial dry day will be observed, with liquor sales restricted until 6 pm.
  • November 21–22: No restrictions on alcohol sales for the next two days.
  • November 23: Alcohol sales will again be restricted until 6 pm, following the election results announcement.

Authorities have warned that anyone found violating the dry day rules will face legal action.

Mumbai Polling Booths: Special Focus on ‘Critical’ Stations

In another crucial development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 76 polling stations out of 10,117 in the city that have consistently reported voter turnout of less than 10%. These stations have been categorized as ‘critical’ and will be closely monitored to ensure voter participation.

BMC Chief Bhushan Gagrani emphasized that additional resources will be deployed to address these ‘critical’ booths, aiming for higher voter engagement on election day.
