Uttan-Virar Sea Link Phase-1 Fast-Tracked to Transform Northern MMR Connectivity | उत्तन-विरार सी लिंक फेज-1 से उत्तर एमएमआर में कनेक्टिविटी और विकास को मिलेगी रफ्तार

With an ambitious vision to enhance mobility, reduce travel time, and elevate the standard of living across coastal regions, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has accelerated work on the Uttan–Virar Sea Link (UVSL) Phase-1 — a landmark project poised to unlock the economic potential of northern Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
डॉ. संजय मुखर्जी, आयुक्त, एमएमआरडीए ने कहा:
“उत्तन-विरार सी लिंक के जरिए हम सिर्फ दूरी नहीं पाट रहे, बल्कि जीवन को भी बेहतर बना रहे हैं। यह महत्वपूर्ण कॉरिडोर विरार को मुंबई से चंद मिनटों में जोड़ेगा, जिससे रोज़ाना के सफर, आपातकालीन सेवाओं और कार्यस्थलों तक पहुंच में तेजी आएगी।”
Originally proposed as the Versova-Virar Sea Link (VVSL) under the MSRDC, the project was handed over to MMRDA in October 2022 and restructured into two phases:
- Phase-1: Uttan to Virar – Now approved and under execution
- Phase-2: Virar to Palghar – Feasibility studies ongoing
The Versova-Uttan portion was excluded to prevent duplication with the BMC’s North Coastal Road Project.
A High-Speed Coastal Lifeline | एक तेज़ रफ्तार तटीय जीवन रेखा
The UVSL will be an eight-lane, high-speed North–South corridor directly connecting to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The Phase-1 scope includes:
- Uttan–Virar Sea Link: 24.35 km
- Uttan Connecting Road: 9.32 km
- Vasai Connecting Road: 2.5 km
- Virar Connecting Road: 18.95 km
This strategic corridor aims to reduce congestion on overburdened roads like Western Express Highway, S.V. Road, and Link Road, enabling smoother traffic, lower pollution, and enhanced road safety.

The UVSL is expected to:
- Boost regional integration with neighboring logistics hubs and states
- Attract investments in industrial and commercial zones
- Generate employment during both construction and operations
- Promote tourism through easier access to scenic coastal stretches
- Enhance emergency response, reducing time for ambulances and disaster services
