Delhi: Man in Burqa Pushes 19-Year-Old Woman to Death from 5th-Floor Rooftop, Arrested

Delhi Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman, identified as Neha, by pushing her off the rooftop of her five-story residence in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar area. The accused, Taufeeq, a resident of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody late Tuesday night after being on the run for a brief period, according to PTI.
🚨 Incident Reported Early Morning, Police Respond Promptly
The incident came to light around 8:30 am on Monday, when Jyoti Nagar Police received an alert about a woman who had fallen from the rooftop of her building. Police officials rushed to the spot and found the victim, Neha, in a critical condition. She was immediately taken to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
🕵️♂️ Accused Entered the Building Disguised in a Burqa
In a chilling revelation, the police confirmed that Taufeeq had entered the residential building disguised in a burqa, in an attempt to conceal his identity and avoid being noticed by other residents. During interrogation, he confessed that the burqa helped him reach Neha directly without raising suspicion.
CCTV footage recovered from the building showed a burqa-clad person entering and later exiting the premises under suspicious circumstances. Police are now analyzing multiple CCTV angles from the surrounding area for further evidence.
💔 Relationship Dispute May Have Led to Murder
Preliminary investigations suggest that Neha and Taufeeq were in a relationship for several months, which turned sour after Neha discovered that Taufeeq was planning to marry someone else, allegedly under pressure from his family. This revelation reportedly led to an argument between the two on the rooftop, culminating in the fatal act.
❌ Family Denies Romantic Relationship
Neha’s family, however, has vehemently denied any romantic involvement between her and Taufeeq. Her father claimed that the family had known Taufeeq for nearly three years, and he was a frequent visitor to their home. He added that Neha used to tie a rakhi to the accused every year, firmly dismissing any suggestion of a love affair.

The police have stated that all possible motives and angles are being investigated — including romantic dispute, betrayal of trust, and premeditated murder. Taufeeq remains in custody and is being interrogated further as officials work to piece together the full chain of events.
